Tea Party
Yesterday we got dressed up in costumes and had a real tea party. We made toast with butter and jelly and put lemonade in the tea pot and I let the girls pour their own glass. They thought it was the coolest thing in the world. I told them to get dressed up and Reese ran for this dance costume and Saige shouted in a loud bossy voice "I need my flip flops". That girl LOVES her shoes. They put a feather boa and a crown on me as well. I love how simple they are. We do so many fun things and this was the highlight of their day.

Best play costume EVER
Could she be ANY cuter???
This was suppose to be Reese's dance costume for her recital. We ended up leaving dance class because her teacher felt Reese wasn't as "seasoned" as the other dancers (who were 3-5 years old) She was very nice and I dont think she meant any harm but telling me that my three year old needs private lessons wasn't something that we exactly liked hearing. We wanted dance to be a fun, positive experience. Having someone think my child needs to "keep up" with the others in such a way wasn't what we wanted. Preschool ANYTHING should not be so competitive. So we quit and moved on to other things. But we got to keep the costume since it was already paid for. Isn't it the most adorable thing ever? She hasn't taken it off. She LOVES IT!!!

Beach
We took the girls on a last minute beach trip. We have never really done this with them so we thought it would be fun to go before the heat index gets to 120 and the beach is packed with summer kiddos. On the way down there Reese was very excited and kept talking about getting in the water. When she saw the waves she just knew the white caps were the whales tail. :)
But when we got out of the car the size of the ocean must of been a bit overwhelming. She instantly HID behind our car and started to cry. We just left her there to warm up to the idea of the beach and she finally came closer.

The beach was covered in seaweed. And then behind/below the seaweed was a ?ditch? of water. Ya know, the kind with the yucky stuff you don't normally want your child playing in. Well thats were Reese stayed the entire time. She did enjoy building sand castles, finding seashells and eventually she walked over and literally put her TOES in the ocean. She did not like the waves coming in and out and later told us the ocean was trying to take her away. I showed her how to write in the sand too. We fed the seagulls some crackers. She acted like they were scaring her but they weren't AT ALL! She kept throwing crackers closer and closer so they would come to her and she was smiling the whole time saying "shoo birds". She looked at me and one point and said "I really love the beach mommy don't you". So, I guess she had fun in her own way.

Saiges trip to the beach was totally different than Reese's. True to form she went right for it. We kept having to watch her VERY closely because she would just run into the ocean without either one of us. NO fear at all. She loved having the waves on her. The water would knock her right in the face and she'd say "do it again do it again" She wasn't out of the water much. I'm not a big water fan (or our water anyway because you can't see anything) so Aaron stayed in the water with her while I did the other stuff with Reese. One time Aaron said she was walking and a wave took her under water a little. I'm glad I didn't see that. :)

But heres a sweet one of the girls together.

Saige is always surprising me
My mom kept Saige for me this weekend. She does this all the time but usually has to bring Saige back to our house to nap because shes always been a "bad sleeper." She once cried from San Antonio to Houston nonstop. She didn't sleep through the night until she over a year. She would just cry and cry. So thats why we don't even attempt to mess with Saige's sleep problems. We have never even gone out of town. Shes a total mess :)
Well my mom decided to show off and try to get my hard/bad sleeper to nap at her house in her bed (no pack n play, no crib, nothing excpet some bedrails and a baby monitor) and she did it. She put her in there at 1:00 and she said she talked/played for about 20 minutes and fell asleep.
Heres the best part though. Saige LOVES her "baby". Its a security blankey she has slept with since maybe 6 months? and she still uses a paci. My mom forgot them at our house. She went to the store and bought her a new one and she took it? And slept for 2 hours. in a strange bed. with a strange baby. strange!!!

Julie and Chris's wedding.
We had a wonderful time. Reese was the flower girl so we got to go to all the events together. We got all dressed and went to the bridal luncheon, then later we went to Julie's penthouse suit and hung out. Reese got to take a bath in the BIGGEST tub ever. So fun! Later we went to the rehearsal and then to the rehearsal dinner. At the rehearsal Reese listened to the priest really well and did what he told her. By the time we got to dinner Reese was TIRED and HUNGRY!!!!!! She was AWESOME though! She ended up going home around 10 and was tuckered out.
The following day we got a hair done and Reese loved every second of it. They curled her hair and she drank OJ from a champane glass. She was in girly heaven. I swear she'd would love it if I mad her a pagent kid LOL! Kara stayed with us all day on Saturday as well. She helped get us in and out of the car. She helped with Reese while I was getting my hair done. I couldn't imagine doing that without her. Shes the BEST!
After the hair we went back to Julie's sisters loft and hung out. Poor Reese was tired, antsy and ready to do something LOL! I kept trying to make her stay still because her hair was falling. But she was so great.
At the wedding she rocked it. She walked down the aisle and stood very still. It was a long wedding so we sat and she went to sit with her daddy and aunt KK. At one point I looked at her to say hello and she held out her hands for me to hold her and made a face like she was going to burst into tears. Aaron ran out of the church quickly. He said they went outside and picked up leaves and dirt. :) She was so ready to move and play. By the time the wedding was over she didn't even want to take pictures but held out for another few minutes.
At the reception Reese begged Daddy to dance with her and rolled around on the floor LOL! Aunt KK took her home around 9 and she went to sleep in about 5 seconds in the car.
We felt so blessed that Julie wanted us in her special day. Reese was so well behaved and did a wonderful job!
Now heres a few pictures...
We did it this tight so that it would fall...it worked out great! But isn't she cute with the tight curls. Love her!!

I LOVE this one!

Jello Anyone?
Reese's school has the parents provide snack each day. We all take turns. Today was my turn and I had "special" snack, which means I had to get with the teacher to see what she wanted me to bring. Normally it goes with the unit they are doing. They were making ocean cups. She asked me to bring jello already in the cups, grahm crackers, and gummy fish. I think jello in a cup? Like jello shots? I've never ever ever bought jello cups so yes, I went there. And to make it even better last night at 8:00 I went to the store and bought two packages of blue jello and DIXIE CUPS! I get home and MAKE the jello and POUR IT INTO THE CUPS. Not once did I think this seemed odd. Not once did I think about the individual cups that are sold in the store. Yes, I made tiny jello shots for the kids in dixie cups. Aaron even helped so this might be also his fault LOL!!! We put the jello in the fridge and went to bed.
Now, I did have a LONG day with a million and one things floating through my brain so maybe thats why I had no common sense?
As I was laying in bed this morning very early I started thinking of how I was going to get 20 dixie cups (I made extra) into the school with my girls, a bag of the rest of the snacks, backpack. I seriously shot up and thought OH NO!!! I MADE THEM ALL WRONG!!! I woke Aaron up and told him. He was not amused that I woke him up for that.
I got up and went straight to walmart and guess what I found. Jello. In a cup.
Thank you Lord for saving me the embarrassment of walking into Reese's school with 20 jello shots.
Seriously. Whats wrong with me?

One of those days
Ever walk into target and see that mom with the screaming kids because they couldn't have something...well today folks that was me.
We had a VERY busy day. We are getting ready for Julie's wedding and have a million things to do. We also had Kara's birthday today. We had to get dressed and head out. I wanted Reese to try on a dress first that I bought her for the rehearsal dinner on Friday. I needed to make sure it fit. When I told her it was time to take it off she started acting like a wild monkey. She screamed NO NO NO! I want to wear this dress! I showed her several others and heard "NO that dress isn't pretty! I want this one" Normally I chose my battles. If she wants to wear a certain outfit/shoes I let her. But she was not getting this one dirty AND I had told her no so she needed to learn to listen and respect me. But mostly I didn't want her to get it dirty. I had to nearly put the child in a headlock to get it off. She threw a much longer fit and finally got over it. EMOTIONAL!
I thought whatever and we went finally got in the car. Saige then notices that Reese and I are wearing flip flops and demands hers as well. I didn't have time to run back and search for her shoes so I told her no that we could get them later. SHE then throws a fit. She starts crying and say FLIP FLOPS while kicking the seat in front of her.
We finally pull into Halmark. (A place kids should NOT go into ever) We get through the store without any problems but as we were checking out it happened. Both girls were playing with some candy at the checkout. (AND really what kind of jerk thinks putting candy near ANY checkout is ever a good idea! I think its just plain rude!) I paid our bill and said come on girls and grabbing the candy from their hands putting it back. Saige turns into this demon child that I wanted to run away from. Reese starts crying so loudly I'm sure someone thought she was hurt. Saige throws herself on the floor and I seriously have to drag her by her arm to the door and out of the way of the people behind me in line. Reese follows me but crying so loudly. I asked her to stop please and handed her our box of flip flops for Aunt KK. She takes the box but THROWS it across the store. Saige is screaming and kicking on the floor. I wanted to cry. There were a ton of old ladies in there who I'm sure thought I had the worst kids ever. I so wanted to take them to the car and give them the worst (or best?) spanking ever. I knew I was angry and that was a bad idea. I snatched them up somehow and got them in the carseat. I did what ANY good mother would do and threatened to take away cookie cake (that we had for Aunt KK's birthday). It worked.
They are never like this. Normally I have such sweet girls who I can take places and who listen. I don't know what happened today but I never want to see another day like that again.

Nervous
Today at Reese's school they had SPLASH DAY! I just knew she would love that. She was going to wear her bathing suit and a cover up to school. She was going to eat pizza and popsicles at school. She LOVES playing in our baby pool, water table and sprinkler here at home. She also likes playing in friends big pools but won't get in completely. She likes that big first step/platform type of thing. But I figured she'd enjoy Splash Day.
So this morning I woke her up and showed her the bathing suit and cover up. I said "guess what today is". She burst into tears and told me her legs hurt. (This is always Reese's "out" when she doesn't want to do something) We ate breakfast and she kept asking me questions about splash day. Will there be a pool? Is she going swimming? Then she told me she needed to throw up? (I got a bowl just incase she wasn't making it up) But I pretty much realized that she was very nervous about splash day.
Reese enjoys water but only on her terms. She will NOT go in a big pool completely. She won't even let us hold her. She screams something awful! :( Its so sad. She has on floaties and one of those suits but is still uncomfortable in the water.
Today I was helping with splash day at her school but was inside. I peeked out and saw the kids having a great time with shaving cream, water hose and buckets. I see Reese standing in the back by herself. She wanted no part of the fun. Her teachers told me that she played a few games but didn't want to get wet.
I just don't understand it. There wasn't a pool or anything. Silly girl!!!
(And we are signed up for swim lessons in about 3 weeks. I hope I don't scar her for life by making her go! I'm sure there will be a huge fit and lots of tears!!)

A blessing
Back in Febuary I stumbled upon a blog of a precious baby that was dying of cancer. I wish I could express the sadness I felt for her mommy and daddy...for her sisters and extended family. She was SO beautiful. Reading her story made me question a lot of things. I saw my faith grow in a way I didn't expect. I hit my knees in prayer and understood for the first time what prayer looks like. My girls prayed with me. There were many many fundraisers happening in our area and we were so blessed to be apart of one. A Layla Grace mini session (photo shoot). I thought we were going to get outdoor pictures like the rest of them were but the sun was too bright so we did them inside with a backdrop. The pictures came out pretty good. I wanted the one of them together to be better but what can you expect from a 22 month old and a 3 year old. :) I ended up ordering only one picture of Saige and some how my order was lost. Six weeks later I still had NO picture. I was a bit frustrated and I wanted my darn picture but I decided to handle the situation with some grace and be polite...accidents happen so its not like it was on purpose. I called the photographer a few times and last night she stopped by and gave me our picture. I opened the box to find a disc with all the pictures from out session and a gift certificate for another mini session and a free 11x14 print as an apology for the picture being so late. WHAT A BLESSING!!! I was so excited. Now I have ALL the pictures from our last shoot and can print/use them for anything I want. WOO HOO!!! Awesome!!

Mothers Day Tea
Reese's school had a mother's day tea. It was SO sweet. We walked in to a beautiful table setting with cake and tea and lemonade (for the kiddos). Reese made me a corsage out of tissue paper. There was a cute little butterfly container with a hug and kiss candy inside of it. There was a song and a mommy interview. She got my name, hair color and eye color correct but said I was 3 years old and that salad was my favorite food. I bet I'd like my figure a lot better if I ate more salad LOL! Heres a few pictures.
(notice the way Reese draws people. Shes gotten pretty good!)

Mole rats
This is an odd post.
We went to the zoo about a month (maybe two?) ago. In one of the buildings there is a small window that I happened to peek into. It was about eye level for me so much higher than Reese or Saige. I looked in and saw maybe 10 small rat looking creatures with two big giant teeth (like a mole) sticking out. They didn't have any fur so looked "naked" and had their eyes closed . But they were NASTY! I screamed and said EWWW gross look at this. I held Reese up to see and she BURST into tears. She started screaming "I want to go home" and threw the biggest fit I've ever seen her do (in public). We had just gotten there so we weren't leaving and the elephants calmed her down.
But since then she talks about molerats all.the.time. She has called a boy a mole rat which we had to discuss. Yesterday her teacher asked me what it was and where we had been to see one LOL! She is STILL telling people about them. She makes the funniest face when she tries to copy their eyes and teeth. She asks me nearly every night if there are mole rats in her room and then follows with "there is nothing to be afraid of".
She went back to the zoo and had another fit and refused to go into the room with the mole rats. I hope she gets over this soon. But for your viewing pleasure...

Saige's birthday Party
Saige is a lucky little lady. My dad and stepmom couldn't make her birthday party so they came and made their own party...lunch, cupcakes and of course presents. Saige got a fancy Ariel swimsuit, a fire truck (which she loves), flipflops, and a swimsuit cover up.

Today we had a "small" family party. We normally do parties big here but this year we wanted-needed something simple. We got pappasitos and had some balloons and a simple swing set for "entertainment". As soon as we got back with the cake and balloons Reese and Saige were beyond excited. Saige clapped her hands and screamed "Happy Birthday to me" and Reese took one look at the cake (Ariel) and sang "look at this stuff, isn't it neat. Wouldn't you think my collections complete"
It was a lot of fun. She got some cute clothes, books, dora flip flops, a new purse, feather boa, swimming pool, art easle, panties and a cool abc toy. When she saw her panties she wanted to put them on right away. And she carried her shoes and purse around the rest of the day.
